Do We Use Cookies or Browser Storage?
Our website uses cookies and your browser’s local storage in the following ways:
- Google Analytics cookies: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as
_gaand_ga_*) to distinguish unique visitors and track session information. These cookies are set by Google and typically expire after 2 years or at the end of your session. The data collected is anonymous and aggregated.
We also use your browser’s local storage in limited ways:
- Notification preferences: When you dismiss a site notification (such as a closure alert or event announcement), we save that preference in your browser’s local storage so the notification doesn’t reappear. This data stays on your device, is not sent to our servers, and automatically expires after 30 days.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data such as which pages you visit, how long you stay, and how you found our site. This information is aggregated and does not personally identify you. Google Analytics may also collect your IP address, which Google processes in accordance with its own privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Do We Share Your Information With Third Parties?
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Your registration and contact information is used solely by Marshall District Library for the purposes described above.
Our website does use the following third-party services to function, which may receive limited technical information (such as your IP address) as part of normal web requests:
- Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous data about how visitors use our website, such as pages visited and time spent on the site. Google’s privacy policy applies to this service.
- Google Fonts: We load fonts from Google’s servers to display our website. Google’s privacy policy applies to this service.
- Google Maps: Event pages may display venue maps using Google Maps. Google’s privacy policy applies to this service.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): Our event registration system and newspaper archive login are processed through AWS. Data is handled in accordance with AWS’s security and privacy standards.
- CDN providers: We load icon libraries from third-party content delivery networks (jsDelivr, Cloudflare) to display icons on our website.
How Do We Protect Your Information?
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information. Our website uses HTTPS encryption for all connections. Registration data is transmitted securely to our backend systems. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How Long Do We Keep Your Information?
Event registration data is retained for the purpose of managing the event and any follow-up communication. We do not retain your information longer than necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
Children’s Privacy
Our website is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If a parent or guardian registers a child for a library event, the parent’s or guardian’s contact information is used. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us so we can promptly remove it.

You have the following choices regarding your information:
- You may choose not to provide personal information, though this may prevent you from registering for events or receiving communications.
- You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- You can clear your browser’s local storage at any time to reset notification preferences.
- You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information.
